Its a matter of adhesion cleaning and light sanding is reccommended by most professionals and paint manufacturers especially on high gloss aplications.Do I have to sand the woodwork before painting with the same high gloss paint that is one there now?

yes, you have to dull the surface so the new paint will adhere to the old paint
