What is the best item/product to sand semi-gloss paint off of walls?

When you sand the semi-gloss paint you don't sand it off! You only take the shine off. Just enough so that your good primer has something to adhere too. You can use a liquid product they sell that takes the shine off but it IS toxic like the other guy says. You'll want good ventilation.

Good primer or not. You must start with a clean surface.

';Professional painters'; aren't all they crack themselves up to be!! You can do a better job yourself and probably would because its yours and you want it to be right. What is the best item/product to sand semi-gloss paint off of walls?
In the paint section you can find a sanding block %26amp; handle looks like a broom handle. These use a very fine wire almost looking like screen wire. It'll cover a large area fast and scuff up enough of the existing paint to allow painting. You'll need to wipe the walls before painting using a tac cloth to be sure you get all the dust and stuff, otherwise you'll have a texture looking finish and peeling paint. What is the best item/product to sand semi-gloss paint off of walls?
Not on my watch has the right answer..You go trying to sand semi gloss paint off the walls , besides sanding through it in spots messing up the drywall...a single piece of paper or the screen that the other person mentioned(which is actually made for sanding joint compound not paint and called a sanding screen) it will ball up on it to where you will change screens every 3 minutes.. Simply wash the walls..prime it then paint it..do not try to sand it off..
Its late, I'm tired but I'm sure that this site has the answer for you. I've always believed, myself, that it is best to sand it even if you are going to put a good primer. That semi-gloss can be wiped down with a chemical but the chemical is toxic.
I wouldn't sand it. Instead use a primer over top. Paint the wall with the primer and then paint over it with your new paint.
