I have just given my front door a coat of gloss paint (weather okay today for painting?

However it looks to me as it will need another coat when this one is good and dry. Is it okay to give it a second coat of gloss or will the paint not adhere to the first coat?I have just given my front door a coat of gloss paint (weather okay today for painting?
Too late for me to answer.....has it dried ok ?...xxI have just given my front door a coat of gloss paint (weather okay today for painting?
As long as the temperature is above 50 degrees you should be ok; lightly sand the first coat...and I mean ';lightly'; just to scuff it a bit..then remove dust and re-coat
Rub it down with sandpaper before applying the second coat
U **** ITS RAINING
When completely dry no harm in a second coat, %26amp; no it`s not raining here either.
The paint will adhere just fine to the same kind of paint. You should only sand any rough spots or bubbles.

To be sure though you can check the manufacturers instructions with respect to recoating on the can. It will indicate how long to wait between coats and whether any other steps are required.

Sometimes even if it dry you should not recoat for 24 hours, it depends on the paint.
I will make my own suggestion as i have done this many times over.

Your first coat must be dry before you apply the second coat. 24 - 48 hour wait is most ideal. Sand your door with a find grade sand paper. Your strokes must be even and in a uniform direction, never sand the wood in a circular motion. Sanding will allow the second coat to adhere to the first much better.

After doing so and again before applying the second coat, wipe your door with a clean wiping rugs dampen with a little paint thinner. Let it dry for about 30 minutes before repainting.

Read paint instructions. There are brands that will require a little diluting with paint thinner.

This should be on problem to you but I'm not yet done. Most imporant - make sure you have a bottle or two of really cold beer. you'll need treat yourself for the splendid job you just did.
Read the tin - it should tell you after how long it is OK to do a 2nd coat - for gloss its usuallu upwards of 8-10 hours.
you can only apply gloss paint within 24 hours of the first coat after that time the gloss will not adhere in to the first coat
