Here's my dilemma. I'm painting my kitchen and I spent a lot of time prepping one of the walls. Washed it, sanded it, spackled it, etc. Then I went ahead and I painted it with one layer of a high gloss paint. After the fact I realized I don't like the color and the paint finish does show everything. Could I switch to a kitchen/bathroom enamel and paint over it directly? Or I am better off just sticking to the same kind of paint? Can I use a kitchen/bathroom enamel over a high gloss paint?
As long as the color is not too terribly different, you can paint it directly. If it's a drastic difference, prime it first. You can have the primer tinted to help with coverage. Hope this helps. Can I use a kitchen/bathroom enamel over a high gloss paint?
before doing anything over high gloss I would do a light sanding so whatever you put on will stick.
Don't know about the enamel. I've only used it for appliances. Would need more info about the product you're using.
Walls shouldn't be painted with high gloss. It's for woodwork.
Semi gloss is the best for kitchens. It is dull enough to not show defects, but ';shiny'; enough to be scrubbable.
Go to Lowe's or Home Depot and Buy a power to wash the wall. I think it is called ';white wash'; It will wash off the shine and will allow latex paint to stick to it. Go to the paint area and ask.
a light sanding will be needed to give the next coat of paint something to ';cling'; to.
Enamel is going to be a glossy as the high gloss. You might not like that either.
