Difference between satin paint and gloss paint?

Have some painting to do and I was curious as to the difference between satin black paint and gloss black paint?Difference between satin paint and gloss paint?
In order, from lowest to highest sheen, you have:

Eggshell


Satin


Semi gloss


Gloss

satin does not have a sheen to it, gloss does. If you have any defects in the wall or whatever it is you are painting you would not want to use gloss. It will make any imperfections stand out.
