Paints take at least 2 weeks to fully cure. Do not try to scratch it off with your fingernail within 3 days. I work at Home Depot in the paint department and I have this questions all the time. Especially with semi gloss paint. With it being shiny it does take a little longer to dry. Give it at least 2 weeks before you try cleaning it or anything like that.We got my home painted with semi gloss paint 3 days ago. and i can scratch it off with my fingernail still?
It really depends on the type of paint (quality) and the preparation of the surface that was painted... Did you clean the walls before painting.. I use Tri sodium phosphate to clean the walls... Also, priming helps the paint adhere better.. Did you do 1 or 2 or more coats of paint? Also, paint does take a good amount of time to ';cure'; or harden to the surface painted so give it some time and if it's still cracking and peeling.. Be prepared to REPAINT ! Also, I work at Lowes and the paint dept is very, very knowledgeable about the products and painting in general....

Good luck
Its not supposed to do that! It may be the surface or type of paint that you painted on top of. Look on your can and there should be a phone number or help line number. I call this rather than talk to the guys at the store, 'cause a lot of times they are not real knowledgeable about their products.
I dont'know how hard you are scratching the paint but it it does come off easly or it actually peels off,the problem is not the paint or the application but the surface preparation.

You should have a clean and smooth surface, better if you sand it so that the new paint could cling to it better.
Depends on latex or acrylic and indoor or out door paint. Was it sanded before painting, and the time takes for curing. Read the can then determine right or Then go with the phone # on the can as Layniegi advised.
When you scratched the paint off, was there more than paint under your nail? It sounds like the wall may have been damp or decomposing. Is the paint tacky to the touch? Do you have air circulation in the house?
