The only problem you have to get over with emulsioning over gloss is that the emulsion will initially slip on it and it will be hard to get an even finish, also, gloss is hard and non-porous so your emulsion lays on top of it rather than sinking in or gripping it.

So you can rub it down lightly allover and put an oil-based undercoat on. This paint is designed to adhere to gloss, but unlike gloss it will leave an almost matt finish that your emulsion can grip. The only drawback is it is smelly, a bit messy and you will have to leave it 16-24 hours before you can over paint it.

You could lightly rub it down and use any one of a number of specialist primers like Kilz, Zsinnser, Bullseye 123, prime-it plus, but these are very expensive and overkill and will not do anything the cheaper undercoat won't do, except be easier to use and overpaintable the same day.

Whatever you do, get all the grease off, wipe it all over will white spirit if necessary befor lightly rubbing down.
Being a kitchen, first clean it. There is a product called TSP (tri-sodium phosphate). It will remove any grease or oily products from cooking. After that you can find a paint made by Kilz that does well at hiding the gloss. They also make a basic primer that can be used before painting to establish a base for the new paint.
Clean down lightly abraze surface, good coat of undercoat or 2 thinner ones and then you can emulsion.
this is easy, Dulux One Coat will do this NO problem at all. If you want a colour that DULUX OC dont do OC it in White then once thats dry paint your chosen colour over it
use a primer before repainting.
