I painted my kitchen with a semi gloss paint and I don't like the shine in it,I was wondering if there's something you can put on it without having to repaint with a flat paint. Is there any way after painting a room with semi-gloss paint to tone it down to look more flat?
Get a small acrylic bottle of the exact or nearest color(make sure you don't get the gloss!). Add lots of water(I don't know how big your kit is to give you a guesstiment) and apply it with a roller or hand sponge it on. It will take the shine off, dries quickly, won't leave an odor, and only cost about $2. Also If you don't like what you put on first to sample it, you can just wash it off! You can adjust the amount of water and keep going. Is there any way after painting a room with semi-gloss paint to tone it down to look more flat?
nope can't be done because the s/g is a resin that gives it the s/g look. when you buy paint you will notice that the shiner it is. the more expensive it is ; in-order flat satin semi-gloss then high gloss.i have been a painter for 35 years and if you asked me was there a flat paint that you could clean i would have told you no, but that was before i worked at Lowe's as a paint dept. manager and discovered signature paint made by American tradition, expensive but one coat coverage and you can clean it. i have painted my whole house with it.oh also one day on a very large job the helper brought us a 56 gal. can of flat and we mixed it with and the wall came out s/g and flat all over, didn't work. i reread your question and you could faux paint with flat and then put a clear satin for protection
go with handy's info, there is a product out there that is called a deglosser and thats what it does. Also , don't mean to be mean but the painter guy who has over35yrs experience should study again:) sorry
I don't know what you could use without painting it again. Next time try a low lustre semi-gloss or a matte finish paint. They are easier to clean if you get a spill or mark on the wall. Flat paint doesn't clean well at all.
Normally kitchens are painted with a semi-gloss or even a gloss finish. It is easier to clean food messes off of it with a sponge without taking any paint off.
Not sure how to tone down the semi though.
repaint with satin finish. lol
Nope! have to repaint!
Yes, you can make it look a bit less glossy. Simply go to a Home Center and pick up Liquid Deglosser also referred to as 'Liquid Sandpaper' and following the directions on the container, test the product in an inconspicuous area. Usually you wipe it on and wet wipe it off. This will lessen the gloss of the semi-gloss.
you can wash it with tsp.....this will dull the shine and also prepare it if you decide to repaint!
dont use flat paint in a kitchen. Use the satin, it has a little sheen and it is still washable. flat paint will come off the wall in your sponge if you wash it. it is another paint job, you will be a good painter when you get done.
We always used semi-gloss in the kitchen, bathroom and door frames because it is easier to wash and doesn't leave any evidence afterwards.
Flat paint is usually used in other rooms on walls that wouldn't get so dirty.
Why would you want flat paint in your kitchen?
You should have asked before u bought that gloss paint because they make paint that is not shiney and it wears and washes just like gloss. In fact that is exactly what i used shiney is old fashion.
