I have just painted my built-in closet using gloss paint instead of emulsion, how bad is that??

I know that I should have read the tin properly, but I didn't. It was several hours ago that I painted and the paint is still sticky. How long before it is completely dry? The surface of the closet is plastered wall, not wood.I have just painted my built-in closet using gloss paint instead of emulsion, how bad is that??

lol iv done worse than that i once bought blue emulsion to paint my bedroom but after i had done half a wall it didnt seem right. Turns out id got masonry paint! lol
16 -24 hours depending on drying conditions..


If it was fresh plaster its going to look like crap when it does dry....Rather you than me...
its fine just take longer to dry i would leave it a few days dont put your clothes in if you put an onion in it and shut the door it will take some of the smell away and wont leave it smelling of onion dont ask me how !!
I can't understand how the texture and the smell of the paint didn't alert you to your mistake. Anyway it's done now. It should be dry by tomorrow morning. Test it is before putting anything in it though. It won't cause any probs, and there'll be a lovely shine every time you open the closet.


I think you'll be more careful in future though. Lol.
Be dry in about 16 to 24 hours. It might need another coat if it hasn't been painted previously.





you can paint over the top of gloss with emulsion paint though which dries much quicker
Shouldn't be a problem at all - and probably good for discouraging moths etc. Oil-based formulations used to be used on plaster traditionally (as eggshell) although most have now been superseded by acrylic formulations. air it well or use the onion trick (chopped in half) the odour is absorbed by the cut faces. Chuck away before it goes manky.
