how do you paint the skirting gloss white without getting any paint on the carpet?Paint gloss on the skirting board?

buy apaint guard .a long flat piece of aluminium abuot 20 inches long and use it to press your cappet down .but remember to wipe it cleanafter you move along to the next section of skirt . good luck.
Put two layers of masking tape along the carpet, and use two very thin coats of gloss paint. Go carefully! Allow 24 hours between coats for best results.
Masking tape round the carpet before painting could be a solution
I use 40mm parcel tape, push it right into the groove between the carpet and the skirting. Remove it just as the last coat is not quite dry.
You could put Masking tape along the edge of the carpet, or take up the carpet while you paint.





Always apply gloss thinly, so two thin coats is better than trying to ladle it on in one go.

put masking tape round the top of the skirting so you dont get it on the walls, and use grease proof paper (like in baking) for under the skirting, just slide it under, then use a sharp knife when removing it to keep a straight edge instead of all the little bumps from the drips.

the easy option is to use a piece of cardboard and push it tight to the skirting board as you move along. it is quick and does not need to be taped or nailed and yes easy with the gloss. use undercoat first of course.
